Once upon a time there was an emperor who longed to be a nudist and yet lived in northern climes. One day two tailors approached him with an ingenious scheme. They would make him a pair of long johns out of a gossamer fabric so magical that it remained invisible to those who weren’t too bright. That way the emperor could remain warm during his processions through his empire, and yet his dimwitted subjects would think he was parading in the buff.
Sure enough, when his loyal subjects saw him parading in his underwear, they sounded a collective gasp. Taking this as proof that they couldn’t see his long johns, he happily processed, smug and snug at the same time.
